The Combined Arms Live Fire Exercise took place from 02-10 November, and we supported it with artillery from 07-10 November while our sister battery fired from the 2nd to the 7th. This involved the maneuver units in our brigade to go through a battle scenario with live ammunition, sort of like running football plays at full speed with your starting offense. And when they needed artillery support, they called us, the King of Battle!

Here I am, back in Lawton, Oklahoma. When I left six months ago I swore off ever having to come back. The Army had different plans.

This two-week course is where fires support officer’s (FSO), forward observers (FO), and other personnel that are designated to call in indirect fires, go to learn to be more proficient in calling in fires from aircraft. It’s almost over. Yesterday I passed my last two exams of Field Artillery Basic Officer Leaders Course. I don’t graduate until the 29th, but I have met all the graduation requirements and officially consider myself BRANCH QUALIFIED!!
For all of you non-Army types, this means I have all the knowledge and skills required to be functional when I report to my duty assignment for the Big Show. Realistically, my classmates and I have only the basis of basic skills required to enter our assignments. Once we get there, and over the …
